Reflections about the semester

This semester have been very agitated. I needed so much time for do the homeworks and study all that i have to play in the clarinet, because of this i left a band where i was playing. But i think it was good because i improved very much in the clarinet, specially in the repertoire that i have to play for my end of year exam. Another good thing that happened on this semester is that i started to work in clarinet classes and in a band (it's a bad band, but i receive a payment for play) and the best thing is that i have had time to take a walk with my dog.

 Bad things happened at the end of the semester and in this moment exactly, because i have so many works, expositions, tests and live performances, so i need another Pablo to do all the things without getting stressed, but i hope i will survive as Gloria Gaynor says. Anyway, i think i have reached my achievements, i have almost complete the Brahms sonata number two and i have to play it in september, now my clarinet teacher asked me to study the first sonata and if all goes good the two sonatas will be my exam. Other great achievement is that i buyed a new clarinet and it sounds better than the one that i used to play and the best is that i buyed it at half price.

 I think this have been a good semester, and i hope i win a contest to play in Uruguay with my trio of chamber music. So wish me luck.

How have you changed?

When i was a child i used to don't care about responsabilities and school homeworks, in that time my favourite things was play video games and go out to play with my friends. Now i have to care very much for responsabilities because i can't lose the jobs i sometimes get andi can't reprobate my subjects at the university. Today i have no time for video games and i have a nintendo 64 with some games at the bottom of my closet, i hope that someday we will meet again and past good moments like in the past. I have changed my nutrition because i have become lactose intolerant and the lactose milk puts my stomach very bad. When i was a child i don't use to like avocado and i only started to eat it about five years ago. At time i ate a lots of candys and today it's the opposite, i try not no eat suggar as possible and i enjoy very much eating fruits and vegetables. Other important change in me is the lost of vision, when i was a kid i used to have an eagle eye and i could catch sight the buses and their numeration at 300 meters of distance, for my luck, some unknown genius (for me at least) invented the eyeglasses.

A subject i enjoyed this semester

This semester a really enjoyed the subject of musical analysis.

 In classes we learn about analysis concepts like gesture, motif, phrase, etc. Also, we learn how to divide the music into periods, sections, phrases and semiphrases. We learn too what are the uses of the cadences and what part of the music they divides (generally a cadence indicates the end of a phrase, a semicadence indicate the end of a semiphrase [cadence = conclusive; semicadence = not conclusive]).

The main contents i have seen in this subject was the musical forms of waltz, menuetto and rondo. In the minuetto form we have to write an essay of a minuetto that we have played someday, i chosed the minuetto from the trio K 498 for clarinet, viola and piano and i have pasted very great moments analyzing that. Also, i discovered some things that i don't noticed the time that i played to it. Soon, i have to write a new essay, this time of the rondo form, so wish me luck.

One of the best sites related with my career is IMSLP (https://imslp.org/). Here you can find a lot of music sheets of many composers. The first time i visited the site i was very excited because here i found sheets that i couldn't find in other sites. In the website there are many music for all the instruments, there are so many orchestrations of symphonies and music for big orchestras, there are music for solo instrument too, for solo instrument and piano accompaniment and a lot of chamber music.

When i need to find a sheet of something that i have to play IMSLP is first site that i visit and many times i have found what i was looking for here. So, if you someday need a music sheet or score, i hope you take a visit to IMSLP.

What are you passionate about?

One of my passions are the dogs, but i have talked enough of dogs in the past post, so i will talk about my other passion, the food. I really enjoy very much eating and i like to try new foods of other places of the world (in Santiago, obviously), one of my favourite non chilean foods are the shawarmas, the person who created the shawarmas was a genius and i owe him or her many great moments that i have pasted eating that. I love the shawarmas with falafel, also it contains many vegetables like tomato, lettuce, purple onion and an exquisite arabic yogurt. Other of my favourite foods is from the east too and comes from the India. I don't remember the name of the menus because they are very strange, but i can describe or try to describe them, all the menus have a base of rice and then you can choose the rest, it can be chopped chicken in a sauce of curry and other condiments, it can be chicken in tomato sauce, it can be white cheese in a spinach sauce (highly recommended) and fish in the same curry sauce that i have mentioned previously. There are other menus but i haven't tasted them.

Things that catch my attention on the street

Today i'm going to talk about the things that catch my attention on the street. First, i will start with things around my neighborhood, i live close to the hill and i go some days a week to walk with my dog Doqui here. Every week my attention is captured by the vegetation which each time is different, a couple of months ago everything was withered and the last two or three weeks i have noticed that the cactus are starting to bloom, the grass is growing up, the hawthorn are getting green and the nettle bushes are everywhere.

Other things that catch my attention in the street, are the ancient houses that i can see in the old neighborhoods, i am always getting impressed with the beauty of the old buildings. The details are so notorious and delicate, i hope i can live in an old house someday of Santiago or in a very high hill of Valparaíso with my good friend Doqui.

My favorita picture

The dog in the picture is my pet named Doqui. He is a very adorable one-eyed dog and is a mix between chow chow and samoyed. He arrived to my house when he was a three month puppy and today he is a three years super stupendous dog.

 This picture was taken about six months ago and here you can see his sweet gaze, his black tongue, his blonde hair and his adorable face. Also, you can see his brown carpet with dog pictures, he loves it and sometimes i see him caressing his face with it. The picture was taken in his (our) yard who is in the front of my house and was taken with my phone camera, so, i'm very sorry for the bad quality of the photo.

 This picture have become my favourite because i usually don't take photos and here i feel i have captured his innocence. But don't think he is all sweetness, he loves the street and learned how to open the fence so, if i don't close it with a chain he run away to past some hours with his dog friends of the neighborhood with whom he have a really dangerous gang. They don't accept foreign dogs and don't let them be near of their street. Doqui don't like people strange too and is very suspicious, because of that it's difficult to win his love, so i feel very fortuned to be his friend.

My favourite piece of tech

My favourite piece of tech is the metronome app for the smartphones.

I've got it a couple of years ago when i get lost my metronome, at that time i thought i would have to buy another machine, but someone gave me the great idea to download the metronome app to my smartphone. I really love it, and it works perfect. The only point against is that it consumes a lot of energy, but with a charger and a plug near it's all ok.

I use it everyday when i study and it's very simple to use, you only have to chose the velocity of the beat, the metric, raise the volume and have a great moment studying with your precious clarinet.

I like it because it's the best use that i have to a phone, it's very simple to use and it doesn't ask for anything in return for the great service that brings to me.

If you don't have your metronome app in your smartphone i highly recommend you to download it, you will not regret.

My motivations to study the clarinet career

 When i was a child i liked the music very much, i started playing guitar at the age of fifteen. Then, i get into the musical education career when i finished the high school. I was there for two years and between those years i learned to play the clarinet becoming an student of Carmelo Bustos, a great musician of popular music. With him i learned so much and at the end of that year i decided to take the test to enter in the career of musical interpretation in the Universidad de Chile.

 My motivations to chose the clarinet as the instrument i want to study over the guitar was that the clarinet sound is very emotive and much more characteristic of each interpreter. Other motivation i get to study this career it was when i listened for the first time to the Benny Goodman orchestra and then i started to look for clarinet concerts and sonatas that make me want to play that refined music that can only be played correctly by studying for a lot of years.

 That is why i study the clarinet, even knowing i will a professional always looking for a job.

My autobiography

My name is Pablo Baez Schulz. I was born in Santiago de Chile. I'm twenty seven years old. Son of Luis Baez and Jacqueline Schulz. When i was a child, i lived in Peñalolén and went to the San José Obrero school. During my childhood, my hobbies was play super nintendo, play soccer, collect tazos and ride bike. I was in San Jose Obrero until the thirteen years old and then i changed to José Toribia Medina school where i was two years to change again to the Gabriel González Videla school, the last school where i was.

 In the years where i was in José Toribio Medina, i started to get interested in music, so i learned to play guitar and bass. During those years i formed part of a lot of very bad rock bands and played a few times in public. In this time too, my hobbies changed a little: i left the super nintendo and the collections, as compensation, my new hobbies was listen music, play music, go to parties and read. Later, in my last high school years i was getting interested in theater too, so i went to see some works.

 Finishing the high school i went to the university Andrés Bello to study musical education, the worst decition in life. I was two years here and during that time i started to learn how to play the clarinet, in my last year there, i deceided to take the test to study clarinet in the Universidad de Chile in december of 2012. A few months later, they notified me that i was accepted in the career.
